Bio

Miguel Montenegro is a comic book author and professional illustrator better known for his visual2011-08-30 Miguel storytelling ability and technical versatility.

Born and raised in Portugal, Miguel knew he wanted to be doing comics at the age of eleven when he found American comics. At 17, he moved to the United States as a foreign exchange student and stayed there for one year to study graphic arts.

On his return to Portugal, he started working full-time as a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist due to the fast-growing number of assignments and clients. Over the next ten years, Miguel illustrated close to a thousand storyboards, working for just about every production company and ad agency in Portugal, as well as some of the biggest ones in Europe.

Miguel’s first serious publishing venture came with Trisan Editors, for whom he wrote and illustrated a collection of nine graphic novels for children. Accomplishing his job ahead of time, he developed the graphic novel “An Adventure With Santa Klaus”, which eventually sold over 11 thousand copies in December of that year, a record in his country.

His first work for a major publisher came to life in the form of a cover for Marvel’s X-Men #51. Miguel was the first born and raised Portuguese to be published by Marvel. He has since worked for several American publishers, including Marvel Entertainment (Red Prophet), Image Comics (Intimidators), Dynamite Entertainment (Army of Darkness vs. Xena),  TopCow (The Covenant), CrossGen (Triklops: Icons of Evil) and MVCreations (SpookShow).

Besides working in comics, Miguel also majored in Clinical Psychology as an honor student (97th percentile). His papers have been published in international scientific journals since then.

The unlikely combination of Miguel’s passion for cartoons and his interest in psychology blossomed into the creation of PSYCHODUCKS, a daily comic strip of his own creation with a big following on Facebook and translated in five languages.

At present, Miguel is focused on producing PSYCHODUCKS daily strip and american comic books.
